Emo­tions and feel­ings — we all have them, but it’s often hard to describe or even name them. Thanks to the ani­mat­ed film indus­try, feel­ings are becom­ing more in the spot­light, due to movies such as Inside Out, Inside Out 2, Coco, and Encan­to. These films have increased aware­ness of dif­fer­ent types of emo­tions such as sad­ness, hap­pi­ness, anger, embar­rass­ment, anx­i­ety, grief, shame, and ner­vous­ness. Horrible feelings that won’t go away

You’ve spent time review­ing this list and try­ing to name your feel­ings. Research from UCLA’s Dr. Dan Siegle sug­gests that by nam­ing your expe­ri­ence, you’re able to have a feel­ing of more con­trol over it—a prin­ci­ple called “Name it to Tame it.” You may have even caught your­self keep­ing your emo­tions inside or act­ing out on your feel­ings, but you just can’t quite get it.
